Founded in 2007, DotGreen was the first organization to propose an environmental Top-Level Domain initiative among Internet industry and international environmental groups. .green signifies a Global Response to Environmental and Economic Necessities (.GREEN), which will soon be the online representation of the green movement and the world’s focus on environmental solutions and humanitarian good at this significant time. Governments, companies, non-profits, and individuals are all valuable contributors to our planet’s sustainable future through the .green Top-Level Domain.
The .green initiative was built around a U.S Non-profit organization, the DotGreen Foundation, incorporated as a legal For Public Benefit Charity with U.S. 501(c)3 Tax Exempt Status. In 2011, The DotGreen Community, Inc., a private corporation, was established in California to grow global community support, raise money, apply to ICANN and provide competitive business, marketing and domain name services required for the launch and operation of a premier Top-Level Domain that will benefit nature, people and planet. Sales of .green domain names will generate philanthropy and create a new income stream for the DotGreen Foundation and for EarthShare, a federation of 610 leading environmental non-profits that distributes funds to initiatives around the world.
New .green websites will share stories of sustainability, providing a trusted online space for a presence amongst a green audience. Internet users and global citizens will recognize and can browse a common online location to easily access information on green practices, solutions, products, programs, initiatives, organizations and more provided by registrants.

DotGreen, located in Greenbrae, California is run by a group of change makers and Internet professionals interested in boosting the impact and relevance of “going green” for governments, corporations, businesses, communities, organizations and individuals. The successful execution of this project is carried out by a passionate team experienced in global environmental and humanitarian solutions, ICANN policy, and Internet technology. DotGreen benefits from a growing network of enthusiastic supporters, early adopters, and sponsors around the world , and in 2013, new .green registrants will take the green movement to the Green Internet.
DotGreen has chosen Neustar to run its technical registry operations. Neustar is a global industry leader, and will run a secure and stable operation for the .green TLD. The company was recently selected by ICANN as one of three Emergency Back-End Registry Operators for the entire TLD program. Neustar continues to demonstrate its commitment to green with the launch of a CSR program in 2010, achievement of several local environmental awards, and LEED certification of their HQ location.
