Another inspiring Green Festival weekend brought the DotGreen team to San Francisco for a great time meeting our grass roots supporters and leaders in environmentally and socially responsible organizations and businesses. The San Francisco Green Festival is always a popular one, drawing thousands of green minded guests over the course of the weekend.
The DotGreen Team attended to once again connect with the local green community and learn about exciting projects, and share current details of the .green domain extension.
We had the opportunity to meet groups making positive impacts in our own community. Urban Tilth is an organization that cultivates agriculture in Contra Costa County to help the community build a more sustainable, healthy, and just food system. Enthusiasm from their team was infectious, as they explained the way youth from nearby schools have the chance to connect with real food, and grow personally while learning about sustainable agriculture and permaculture.
A $5,000 Ford Community Green Grant was awarded to All One Ocean, an organization that creates permanent, community generated Beach Clean Up Stations, to reduce toxicity from plastic and other litter accumulating in our oceans. The Ford Community Green Grants, awarded at each Green Festival, support a local betterment projects. Winners are decided by letting Festival attendees vote, allowing locals to choose the important project that will impact their area!
At DotGreen, we spotlighted some local green groups in our DotGreen raffle, giving away their green specialty items. Attendees entered for a chance to win a gift card to local food cooperative Rainbow Grocery, the delicious vegan restaurant Source, a collection of handmade teas from A Blank Tea, or an at-home mushroom growing kit!
The indoor mushroom kits, a creation from renowned fungi expert Paul Stamets, allow people to easily grow their own, even in a small indoor setting!
