Industry Updates

We now know that the “big reveal” date is June 13. This will be an exciting day for the industry and for DotGreen, as it will bring clarity around all the various New gTLDs that are being applied for and what innovative ideas other than .green exist. Concurrently, ICANN will be determining in which order or “batch” each of the applications will be reviewed via a process described as “digital archery” that will run from June 8 to June 28, with results announced July 11. DotGreen is evaluating various automated mechanisms to maximize our chances of getting in an early batch.
Meanwhile, DotGreen has not lost time in reaching out to various communities and supporting the green movement. In addition, we’ve used social media to build awareness of the .green brand. We are ready to move forward with our launch plans as soon as application evaluation is complete!
In our April newsletter, we shared the exciting news about submitting our .green application to ICANN on April 3rd. At that time, the application system (TAS) was expected to close on April 12 and the “big reveal” of all the various domain names applied for across the industry was scheduled for April 30.
With less than 12 hours left before the closing of TAS, ICANN ran into some technical difficulties and had to shut down the system. They have diligently worked through the various issues, providing regular updates to the industry, wanting to ensure complete resolution of the issue before re-opening the system. Each applicant received an individual note that described how they were specifically affected. On May 22nd, ICANN reopened TAS and closed it May 30th. DotGreen’s application was already in the system, and we used that time to double-check our completed application.
