South School on Internet Governance

The main objective of the South School on Internet Governance is training new opinion leaders in all aspects of Internet governance from a global perspective and with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.

During five days of intensive training, students will learn how to govern Internet, the political implications, economic, social and legal, the role of ICANN, the Internet Governance Forum, the legal aspects of security and privacy on the Internet as well as freedom of expression, SMEs and e-commerce, new business opportunities, intellectual property protection, the fight against cybercrime, digital divide and its impact on the development of the Internet and its future.

Programs like these assure a positive future for the Internet and the public which relies on this resource.

People & Planet: Green Beijing Event

Along the way, participants will learn about China’s sustainability efforts on a local and national level prior to participating in ICANN 46.

Reston – Distinguished Speaker Series with Vint Cerf

Hosted by Verisign Labs, the Distinguished Speaker Series brings Internet technology experts and the technical community together for networking and sharing information.

The January 18, 2013, forum topic will be “Internet Past, Present and Future,” a long-view look at the evolution of the Internet and some opportunities for shaping its trajectory into the 21st and 22nd Centuries. Vinton G. Cerf has served as vice president and chief Internet evangelist for Google since October 2005. In this role, he is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies to support the development of advanced, Internet-based products and services from Google. Cerf is the former senior vice president of Technology Strategy and Architecture and Technology for MCI. Widely known as one of the “Fathers of the Internet,” Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet.

In December 1997, President Clinton presented the U.S. National Medal of Technology to Cerf and his colleague, Robert E. Kahn, for founding and developing the Internet. For their work on the Internet protocols, Kahn and Cerf were named the recipients of the 2004 ACM Alan M. Turing award, which is sometimes called the “Nobel Prize of Computer Science.” In November 2005, President George Bush awarded Cerf and Kahn the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award given by the United States to its citizens.

People & Planet: Green Toronto

DotGreen and Neustar look forward to seeing you in Toronto for the ICANN 45 meeting. Please let us know if you can attend People & Planet “Green Toronto” on Saturday, October 13 to enjoy the “green” side of this beautiful city.


A day-long green event with hosts DotGreen and Neustar, gives participants a chance to learn about green efforts of the ICANN host city, Toronto.  We will begin the day with a ferry ride to the picturesque “Ward’s Island” where we will take a custom ecological tour and learn about the island’s conservation efforts, participate in a native tree planting, and then enjoy an organic picnic lunch.  We’ll then return by ferry to the mainland where we’ll depart for Evergreen Brick Works, the “community environmental center that inspires and equips visitors to live, work and play more sustainably.” After a guided green tour of the Brick Works, we’ll experience “MOVE: The Transportation Expo,” an extraordinary multi-sensory tour of transportation and an “exploration of innovative ideas and technologies needed to build and connect our communities in efficient and sustainable ways.”  These unique opportunities will show highlights of Toronto today, as the city’s efforts lead toward a greener city and future for others.

Rio+20

At the Rio+20 Conference, world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together to shape how we can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want. The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) is being organized in pursuance of General Assembly Resolution 64/236 (A/RES/64/236), and will take place in Brazil on 20-22 June 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg. It is envisaged as a Conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government or other representatives. The Conference will result in a focused political document. Rio +20 begins with Prepcom III (13-15 June) followed by The Sustainable Development Dialogue Days (16-19 June) and The Rio +20 Summit (20-22 June) http://www.uncsd2012.org/rio20/about.html

DotGreen in Rio:  “The new .green Top Level Domain – for an online Global Response to Environmental and Economic Necessities (.GREEN)” will be presented by Annalisa Roger, CEO DotGreen Community, Inc. June 17th in Pavillion 3-6 More than 500 on-site side events organized by governments, major organizations from the UN system and other international groups and associations will take place in RioCentro during the week leading up to the historical Summit on 20-22 June.
